3 Things Thursday (excuse the bad language please)

1. Today is mom's birthday!! She is the BEST. We'd celebrate today but she's headed down to NC with my dad to visit Brother Nixonsleeve and fam for the Labor Day weekend.

Mama Nixonsleeve and Lulu

2. Try not to laugh, my twitter account was hacked yesterday. What, you don't believe me? Ladies and gentleman allow me to present Exhibit A:
These are screen shots of Charlie's phone...
And this

Ummmmm...HOLY SMOKES can you even BELIEVE the crazy stuff my twitter account was sending out!?!? Yep, that's me @ONeillLaura sending out insanity to the universe and they are only funny when you READ them out loud as you cry laughing. I got an email from someone telling me I was sending out weird, scary, SEXUAL links!!! And Charlie reports she got 80 texts from my twitter account. Be careful about allowing access to your twitter from random apps. Meanwhile, problem is now fixed.

3. What were you like in high school? I just found an old pic of me
I miss the old times.

Restoring Honor 8-28-10 by way of restoring highlights

We went to the Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial today:) It was "a tribute to America’s service personnel and other upstanding citizens who embody our nation’s founding principles of integrity, truth and honor."
Good times...I thought of the blog while I was there drinking it all in....exercising my constitutional rights, making a statement, making history...I was thinking of you. That's right. I was thinking of you and good thing I have mad photography skills...feast your eyes. Make a little game of figuring out which pics I took and which are from the news..

OK, I'll just say that from this pic- the sign below could be mistaken for just an "ing honor rally" (they doooo have a great automatic saving account system, and we could stand to honor that, no?) but uggh, Lulu always leaving the new digital camera at home and firing away with the iPhone. No zoom on my iPhone camera.

But seriously, it was waaaaay cool to be with so many happy, like minded, patriotic people today.
The United States of America is the BEST country in the world.

Mr. Lulu, looking like a stud, doing his part to restore honor at the rally.

"Our freedom is only possible if we remain virtuous."

Sarah Palin: "say what you want to say about me, but i raised a combat vet.
you can't take that away from me"

And I say hooah to that.

So, I ALSO had another duty today. That was to fix my terrible hair situation. A little background, I have brown hair. Nothing special so I highlight it, duh. But the highlights have been fewer and farther between since I moved so far (30 minutes) from my awesome stylist. I know you can relate. So, here's the devious part to the story and to this you may or may not relate at all...last night, for the first time in about 6 years I went to the store and bought a box of hair dye in an attempt to take care of the highlights myself. OH MY, this was a baaaaddd idea. I was like sooo light hearted and oddly super confident about doing it. But once I set the timer, got that bag on my head and it started feeling really warm I jumped up and quick washed it but ALAS it was too late. I had the tell tale ORANGE tint of the botched box hair dye. And I went to the rally in DC like a little carrot top so 100,000 perfect strangers could stare. Whoopsie!

No, the story doesn't end there.

Color correction at a new salon at 4pm. Whhhewwwwww..Deep breath out.

Remind me to not take any more "after" pictures in a bar. Bleh.

But the hair is now fabulous.

The end.

Hello? Is it me you're looking for??

my oh my, 'tis been awhile since i have been on here! you know it's a bad sign, when you have to call up your co-blogger to remember your email password. i return to you with my head down, saddened by the fact it has been so long. don't think i wasn't thinking of you all the time...i was, i swear! lulu has made excellent attempts at keeping up with her blogging, and i'm sure she has gotten sick of saying, "last time i checked, it did not say 'a tale of ONE sister,'" to me. she has a point.

see it all began around finals week dec '08. a few things happened....

1. all nighters were being pulled left and right to write about crazy things like the growing epidemic of malaria in zimbabwe, how people in kenya and mexico use the informal economy to combat their impoverishment, why pornography is ruining our male population...you know, uplifting topics like that. (i never said i was having FUN without you!!)

2. i met a man. and i loveeee him. case closed. i won't lie, i have been SWEPT off my feet (and subsequently away from my computer, tv [i'm 4 episodes behind on GG. now THAT is a travesty], and many of my guilty pleasures). seriously though, girls...it's that feeling. the one you can't describe, because you'd sound like a rambling idiot so instead you go around saying, "i just have THAT feeling, you know???" well THAT is how i feel. pinch me. utterly and completely blessed. about a week ago i actually (i thought this only happened in movies) woke up in the middle of the night to make sure the completely perfect evening i had with him earlier wasn't just a dream. like i pathetically did that. and then told him the next day (WHO DOES THAT?!) and i'm telling you all now. no shame, charlie, no shame.

3. and then i went on winter break for a month, and my best girlfriends came back into town. there was a lot of catching up, white wine, and laughter. during this time i also did a TINY bit of traveling, down to charlottesville for a blonde reunion and to north carolina for christmas.  it was soooo fun to be with them, and time flew by!!!!

anyway, the combo of these three things, particularly numbers 2 & 3, factored in majorly to my hiatus from TOTS HQ. right now i am in the process of writing a resume, applying for jobs, and starting my FINAL semester of college. i will try my best best best to blog with frequency!!! i have really missed this place, and you all! thanks for barring with lulu and i as we wrapped up 2008! here's to some seriously fabulous blogging in '09!!

visiting grae and brig and UVA!
the man, the myth, the legend
mom and dad, christmas in north carolina!!
new years with my lovely friends!!
lulu and I with mom :)

i'll close with a few CRITICAL things i've decided on in the past two months:

1. those "save the ta-tas" bumper stickers are just unnecessarily descriptive. of course i support breast cancer research, but 'ta-tas'? i mean really...that's just creating a slippery slope of synonyms that no one needs to be subjected to.
2. gretchen has picked the LEAST hottest housewife's son to hook-up with. ryan? ryan??? not shane?? hell, that annoying michael would even sit better with me. ryan always looks like he smells something bad.
3. gingerSNAP lattes from starbucks have ruined my spirit. they just aren't as good as gingerBREAD lattes. don't get me wrong, i rose above it and continued to drink copious amounts, but it was tough. plus ordering a gingersnap always makes me feel awkward.
4. downloading stevie wonder's cover of "we can work it out" WILL change your life. you can thank lulu when you do.
5. everyone should get into the show "dexter" on showtime. it has an amazing story line, and is completely addicting. its about a serial killer, who has trained himself to only kill other serial killers. a modern day vigilante? trust me it isn't AS morbid as it sounds. do i strike you as someone who likes dark things? lord, i hope not!

anyway, i feel really good after writing this!! hope everyone had a great end to their 2008!!!

Charlie

OHIO PICS!!!

Oh girlies! So sorry I haven't posted my Ohio pics sooner. I have been fighting a cold I think I caught on the plane! It's so annoying, I have to have a tissue [for my issue!] on me at all times. Grrrr!!

Anyhoo Cincinnati was so fun and relaxing! My best friend goes to Xavier, and it was her 22nd birthday on Saturday! After arriving on Friday morning in Dayton, we drove to Hyde Park in Cincinnati, and had lunch at Arthur's. It was really cute!! We sat on the patio out back which was absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous weather, and gorgeous company!

After lunch we went over to Ault Park and walked around. People were setting up tents for a wedding which was kind of exciting! I took a ton of pics of the flowers, but these little guys kind of reminded me of Halloween.

Later in the day after unpacking and lounging for a bit, the three of us headed over to Kroger and picked up some ingredients for our red velvet cupcakes!! We spent Friday night eating sushi, making cupcakes and hanging out with friends. Quite relaxing!

While we were in town I was sure to make a stop at The Pink Box! I loved it last year when I visited. They have really cute preppy and trendy items! The store is adorable and certainly is a place to visit when in Cincinnati.
On Saturday night we went to the Hofbrauhaus House! It was cool because my parents just got back from the ACTUAL Hofbrauhaus House in Munich! Even though it was Ohio, they def. tried to recreate the orig. This is the birthday girl, Marjorie. Normally we aren't big beer drinkers but we would have been kicked out of the place if we had ordered wine!! Haha!
Bridget (left), Monica and me. Bridget is one of my best friends from high school and she is who I was traveling with! Monica is one of Marj's friends... and we love her!
On Monday we went to another famous park in Cincinnati. I forget the name but I took a picture of this guy...he looked so peaceful! Plus, I have a special place in my heart for geese. (Last semester I wrote a 16 page research paper on them! And sadly, it was by choice.)
Cozying up with the fisherman statue....!
Three little blondes all in a row! Marj told us we needed to try Skyline Chili before we left. To be honest--Brig and  I were disappointed. We both had coneys that were covered in wayyy too much cheese, and the chili tasted like cinnamon (not in a good way!) It was fun to say we tried it though. And again, with my beautiful ladies!
All and all, quite a successful trip! I miss them already! Can't wait to see these loves at Thanksgiving!! :) :)

Hope these pics find you happy and well on this Wednesday afternoon!!
