Friday the 13th is for fools

Happy Friday (the 13th) all!

It doesn't have the same sweet ring to it when Mr.Lulu is still half way around the world...but weekends are not to be scoffed at under any circumstances so I will have a stiff upper lip and get through as many DVR'd shows as possible, in his absence. Taking one for the team has always been my hallmark.

In general, today's glaring lesson was that trying to operate without my datebook with me at all times is foolish. I have a very sweet little iPhone but I really still prefer my pencil and paper datebook. And when it slides underneath the seat of my car and hides there...it's trouble. But yet, it's the time management method do best with. It's a vicious cycle-

I did get over to the National Shrine today with my mom, I kept that appointment;) It's a beautiful place, I love attending Mass with tourists from around the globe and in a perfect world I'd have loads of time to spend in their amazing bookshop. I am always sorta rushing...trying to get back out of DC before rush hour...HOV traffic lanes etc etc. But the time I do have to spend there is always fulfilling. And I will include a picture of the shrine purely to counter balance my sister's earlier Allah post...

Sooo, what else is blog-worthy, post-worthy....Charlie and I are headed to Legally Blonde the Musical tomorrow night!! It's at Wolftrap which is such a fun place to see a show....I'm very excited!!!! Does this picture make you happy?

And in other obvious news, today is Friday the 13th. Knew that without the datebook. I am not really a superstitious person but I did a fast search at found that A LOT of people fear this day. Some refuse to go to work, fly on airplanes and basically function normally. National Geographic did some sort of study that estimated $800-900 million dollars are lost today in business--just because it's Friday the 13th. And no one I know can even really explain why there is a stigma with this date--other than the obvious thriller movies. (umm, no haven't seen'em, never will)

Went to another favorite place this afternoon--Home Goods! Wouldn't it be soo cool if Home Goods had a website, and you could pre-search each and every new item. Maybe that would ruin the fun of the experience though...I love the thrill of the hunt while I am there. Ooohh...the LAMP section. So fantastic. I sometimes literally feel my adrenaline kick in when I get my shopping cart, put my purse in the kid seat, make a wide left turn into the glassware aisle and start stalking my prey. [OK, take it easy there killer.] Anyway, we went to a bigger Home Goods, a little farther from my house and shockingly I spent no money...woah, wait a second here. Maybe there is something to the Friday the 13th business. Today had to have been a fluke. I hope I didn't jinx my Home Goods luck---

All in all a good day. Reheated last night's pizza and got two meals for the price of one outta Pizza Hut--heyo!

Time to relax!

To begin the long list of ithappenedsincewelastblogged I'll start with what's right in front of me!!!!

This is my sweet little puppy, Koenig. He's a German Shepherd Dog....and he's awesome!!

Actually the picture isn't new, it's a few weeks ago I guess. His ears stand up straight now.

He is so smart and so adorable and I never had a dog before so I am pretty excited! I know, I know "pet stuff" can be boring to other people and that is completely understandable. For me, it's kind of like listening to the details of someone else's dream they had last night or the retelling of the plot to a movie that you haven't seen. Hard to pay attention to--but now the roles have been reversed...so I will keep the stories of what he did today to a minimum unless something truly unique happens. Which because he is the most amazing puppy ever could be daily. We'll just see.

Kidding.

Sort of.

My husband adores this little guy too--every single day when he comes home from work it's as if they haven't seen each other for 10 years rather than 10 hours. THAT is cute.

i love technology, volume 279

OK--do all my blogging friends have TiVo or a DVR? Absolutely essential. I mean, there is no way that you can see all the amazing things that are happening on tv without it. Again..the threshold of what I can't live without has been raised. Just like my blackberry, OnStar, my iPod ADT and the list goes on....

Anywho, I was at a sales/marketing training this past week and the very, very famous man speaking to us said a lot of powerful things in the 8+ hours I was there...but one particular thing stood out and I'll paraphrase that "self-made millionaires all worked very hard when they were new....and poor people watch TV all the time".

Such a good point. The competition isn't sitting around watching a lot of TV. Hmmmm...

So I sat their and smugly thought that I had the TV situation on lock down...all my shows are recorded..(sometimes two at a time!) and then I can watch them after hours..between 9p and midnight. And truly...there are only a few to record. Gossip Girl, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Dr 90210, Lipstick Jungle, Law and Order:SVU, Dirty Sexy Money, The Office and Entourage of course..

Oh snap.

That is more than I thought. And I am dangerously close to the edge of being a "TV person". (umm, over the edge already?)

And they are all like completely silly shows too. Hmmm...I think that relaxing and putting the brain in neutral is a good thing for stress relief every so often, but perhaps this is too much?

Is 'TV person' only a bunny hop away from 'couch potato'...

Oh lordy...too heavy to contemplate this late at night. I will take a stab at the DVR list in the morning...

Nose in the books, but not for much longer!

Seriously? The last 24 hours have been a total sociological blur! I was in the library allllll day yesterday writing the 5 essays I have due today. Why 5? Because they are two midterms, one with 3 questions and one with 2 questions. Here is a secret confession.... sometimes I procrastinate like no other. I don't even know why I did that this time. It only kept me in the library  last night until 12 am. and then working on them until 5 am at my house! 

PHEW. Well I have one more to write still (ahhhhhh I know! I'm so bad...) so I will be done by 3 pm this afternoon. I. CAN'T. WAIT. 

Here are few things that have been helping me see light at the end of this essay tunnel:

1. The piping hottt new issues of People StyleWatch,and InStyle that arrived in my mailbox yesterday (the mailman is really delivering the goods lately). Nothing feels better the glossy pages of a magazine yet to be read!

2. Wear my Uggs. I busted them out last night and let me tell you...it felt good. Nay, GREAT. Can't wait for cold weather! (Sidebar: apparently these Uggs make my already big feet [10] look even bigger. A lady came up to me last year in the mall and said, "Ohh I love your Uggs! You look like you have big feet like me, I'm glad they make them that size!!"....gee....thanks.....)

3. Watching the newest episodes of Gossip Girl and Greek. Preferably with Lulu. Although I understand why Greek doesn't appeal to her. Gossip Girl on the other hand, is quite a lovely indulgence. Lulu and I find ourselves saying things like, "I seriously love this show." "This show is my life," "I'd like to be S's hair please," "What did I do before this existed??" and "I die" [courtesy of Rachel Zoe], over and over again when we watch. 

4. Gingerbread lattes. Even though it just the beginning of the fall season, I am already gearing up for the GBL (Gingerbread Lattes in Barista terms--I worked at Starbucks in high school) season! GBLs really get me good. They fill you up, never let you down...and the smell reminds me of Christmas! And Christmas break...which means no research papers! Woop woop!

5. Sitting on my white couch. You know that place in your home that you feel the most supreme level of comfort? The place that you think God is using to show you what heaven would be like? That is the white couch. It is a love seat in my room that fits Elsie the cowcat, and myself perfectly. Two peas in a pod we are!! Centrally located for quick access to my desk, t.v., and computer. That is where I will be found tonight. With a few pumpkin candles lit, in a huge over sized sweatshirt, catching up on all your lovely posts :) 

Just thinking about it makes me calm...

YAY! four down, one to go....I'm in the home stretch!!!!!
